With the NBA's ruling class descending upon Charlotte for All-Star Weekend, two-time selectee Bradley Beal used the opportunity to serve as pitchman for his Washington Wizards.
"It was really crazy," Beal said after Sunday's game, according to The Athletic's Fred Katz. "A lot of guys were coming to talk to me and asking me how I feel. The recruiting process is really going all right. It's going all right. I'm trying. This is new for me. So, I'm definitely getting some ears and seeing where guys' minds are at."
Unlike those among Beal's All-Star brethren who are set to become free agents this summer, the star shooting guard probably isn't going anywhere soon. He's under contract with Washington until after the 2020-21 season, and the team reportedly made him untouchable ahead of the Feb. 7 trade deadline.
So, he started probing his peers about their futures. As a player, he's not held to the same anti-tampering rules as team personnel or agents.
Still, the 25-year-old is keeping quiet about who discussed their plans with him.
"I ain't gonna name no names. You're not gonna have me out here for tampering. I ain't gonna throw no names out," Beal said. "I'm keeping them in my piggy bank, my back pocket right here. But in July, hopefully we can do something."
