Giannis Antetokounmpo intends to lace up for the Greek national team this summer at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, according to The Associated Press.

Antetokounmpo would undoubtedly be the country's best hope at a deep run. The MVP candidate is averaging 27.2 points, 12.7 rebounds, six assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game in his sixth season for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Greece's national team last reached the podium at the then-named 2006 FIBA World Championship. It beat the United States 101-95 in the semifinals to advance to the gold medal game before falling to Spain.

Antetokounmpo said he would miss the tournament only if he's injured.

The tournament will take place in China from Aug. 31 to Sept. 15 across eight host cities.
