The Chicago Bulls are waiving veteran forward Carmelo Anthony, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Upon clearing waivers, the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly possess a real possibility of signing the veteran forward, though not before exploring other transactions ahead of the Feb. 7 trade deadline. In any case, the Lakers would have to make another move in order to create a roster spot for Anthony.
In 10 appearances with the Rockets this season, Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Though he didn't suit up again for Houston following a Nov. 11 contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Melo remained on the roster until his trade to Chicago on Jan. 22. He never appeared in a game for the Bulls.
In a coinciding move, the Bulls have acquired Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and cash considerations from the Thunder in exchange for a protected 2020 second-round pick, according to the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson. Luwawu-Cabarrot, the No. 24 pick in 2016, averaged 5.8 minutes of playing time over 21 appearances with Oklahoma.
