The Golden State Warriors have been fortunate to have four players named to the All-Star Game in each of the past two seasons.
Perennial All-Stars Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were officially named starters for the Feb. 17 spectacle on Thursday. But after a slow start to the season, head coach Steve Kerr believes his Warriors would be lucky to have more than one player named a reserve.
"I doubt it," Kerr said of the Warriors getting four All-Stars, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell. "I don't think so, to be honest with you. I don't think it's been that kind of a season. It's been rocky, at least until the last few weeks.
"I think the way Draymond (Green) has played over the last three weeks, for sure, he's been playing at an All-Star level. And he would be the first to tell you he was not playing at an All-Star level for the first couple months. So my guess is he won't make it. But who knows? We'll see what happens."
Green has never been known as a scorer, but the 6-foot-7 forward is averaging just 7.1 points per game - his lowest output since becoming a full-time starter in 2014. In addition to his early struggles from the floor, Green missed 14 games this season with a toe injury.
Klay Thompson is the Warriors' best chance for a third All-Star nod as one of the most effective two-way players in the Association. Over his last 12 contests, the sharpshooting guard is averaging 24.8 points and connecting on 51 percent of his eight 3-point attempts per game.
Unfortunately, this comes after a sluggish start to the year that saw one of the NBA's best gunslingers shoot 33.3 percent through his first 36 games.
"Klay's had an amazing month," Kerr said. "But I know he didn't shoot it as well earlier in the year. I think he's got a really good chance, but there's a lot of guys at that position, so we'll see."
The All-Star reserves will be named Jan. 31.
