Shaq: Paying for Jazmine Barnes' funeral was 'right thing to do'
Shaquille O'Neal opened up earlier this week about why he helped cover the funeral costs of Jazmine Barnes, the 7-year-old Houston girl who was killed in a drive-by shooting on Dec. 30.
"I've been doing stuff like that for years," O'Neal told TMZ Sports. "I watched the news and the pain that the mom had to go through. I saw at the end that they were raising money for the funeral and you know, with something that terrible to have happened, I don't want people to have to worry about trying to raise a few thousand to pay for a funeral.
"I'm always in Houston. I've been living in Houston for 20 years, so I just thought it was the right thing to do."
The NBA Hall of Famer also paid for the funeral of a woman who was fatally shot outside a high school graduation in Georgia last year.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that Larry Woodruffe and Eric Black Jr. have been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with Barnes' death.
