Rondo undergoes hand surgery, expected to miss 4-5 weeks

Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo underwent surgery on his right hand Friday and is expected to miss four-to-five weeks, the team announced.

Rondo sat out 17 games after repairing a fracture in the same hand earlier this season.

The former All-Star returned from his extended absence on Dec. 21 before suffering a Grade 3 sprain to his right ring finger in the Lakers' 127-101 win over the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day.

Los Angeles will also reportedly be without LeBron James for several games after injuring his left groin against the Warriors.

This leaves sophomore point guard Lonzo Ball as the Lakers' lone primary playmaker, with Lance Stephenson likely taking on some of the backup duties.

Rondo is averaging 8.4 points and 6.7 assists through 14 contests.
