The Cleveland Cavaliers and coach Larry Drew have come to an agreement on a contract, the team announced Monday.
Drew will coach the Cavs for the rest of 2018-19 as well as next season if the team chooses to keep him. If not, he'll receive a buyout, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
"Now there's clarity; there's no grey area," Drew said, according to Cavs.com's Joe Gabriele. "And because there's no grey area, me and my staff can really roll our sleeves up and give our all into helping this team be successful."
The 60-year-old had reportedly rejected the title of interim coach in pursuit of a long-term commitment from the Cavaliers. "My contract is up in July," he said last week. "Maybe Larry Drew isn't part of the future."
Drew served as the lead assistant for the Cavs before Tyronn Lue's dismissal last week. He previously coached the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks.
