San Antonio Spurs point guard Derrick White is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks with a heel injury, according to San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald.

White was named the Spurs' starter at point guard after Dejounte Murray suffered a torn ACL in San Antonio's preseason contest against the Houston Rockets on Sunday.

The injury leaves the Spurs with Patty Mills as the lone option at point guard. White was given the starting nod with the expectation that Mills would continue to give Gregg Popovich instant offense off the bench.

Longtime Spurs point guard Tony Parker left the franchise this summer to join the Charlotte Hornets in a backup role behind Kemba Walker. Parker started all but 13 games in his first 16 seasons with the franchise but conceded the starting spot to Murray last season.

White appeared in 17 games as a rookie with San Antonio last year, averaging 3.2 points and 1.5 boards in 8.2 minutes per contest.
