Cavs to alternate starting Thompson, Nance Jr. based on matchup
The starting lineup for the post-LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers is beginning to take form.
Likely flanking five-time All-Star Kevin Love will be George Hill as the lead guard, with Rodney Hood and Cedi Osman on the wings, reports The Athletic's Joe Vardon.
As for Love's frontcourt partner, coach Tyronn Lue said that'll depend on the matchup. Tristan Thompson will get the nod against bigger opposing centers, while Larry Nance Jr. is tabbed to start against smaller frontcourts.
"Last year kinda wore Larry down trying to guard those big guys the whole game," said Lue. "Larry loves it. He's like 'thank you.'"
Here's how Thompson and Nance Jr. performed as starters last season (keep in mind that Nance Jr spent the first half of last season as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers):
Player | Starts | Points | Rebounds | Blocks |
---|---|---|---|---|
T. Thompson | 22 | 6.6 | 7.1 | 0.5 |
L. Nance Jr. | 26 | 9.2 | 7.2 | 0.4 |
