DeMarcus Cousins returned to his hometown of Mobile, Ala. last week to help open a new outdoor basketball court.

Cousins announced last September that he would be donating $253,000 to refurbish the court at Figures Park, where he grew up playing basketball. The National Basketball Players' Association also contributed $25,000 to the cause, according to SLAM's Alex Squadron.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 15, Mobile mayor Sandy Stimpson noted that it was Cousins who came up with the idea for the new court.

"We did not go to DeMarcus and say, 'Will you do this? Will you give us this?'" Stimpson said, according to Mark Inabinett of AL.com. "He came to us and said, 'This is something I would like to talk about, see if there's something we could do together.' He had already kind of made his mind up about what he wanted to do, and we just had to figure out how to get to 'Yes.'"
