There were conflicting accounts of what went through J.R. Smith's mind during the final play of regulation in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals.

Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue said Smith thought his team was leading. Meanwhile, Smith initially said he knew the game was tied.

On second thought, even Smith is uncertain of what went down.

"After thinking about it ... I can’t say I was sure of anything at that point," Smith said during Saturday's media availability, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

With 4.7 seconds left in regulation and the game tied at 107, Smith corralled the offensive rebound off George Hill's missed free throw. Then he dribbled the ball out to the 3-point line instead of attempting a close-range two or passing out to a wide-open LeBron James at the top of the arc.

The Cavaliers failed to seize an opportunity to steal a Game 1 win in regulation, and the Warriors pulled away for a 124-114 victory in overtime.

Now the Cavaliers need to get on the same page quickly against the powerhouse Warriors to avoid falling into a two-game hole.
