Spurs' Green: Players-only meeting was cordial, about more than Kawhi

Rumors of the San Antonio Spurs' players-only meeting have been greatly exaggerated, according to Danny Green.

A report emerged Thursday indicating the players held a tense and emotional meeting in which they implored Kawhi Leonard to return and help them make a playoff push.

Green was quick to dismiss the report on Twitter.

Asked a day later to explain his tweet, Green said the ESPN article was funny to him because it was "incorrect" and "false." He admitted the players did regroup and talk privately following Saturday's win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he disputed "pretty much everything" else in the report.

"Nothing was aggravating or frustrating. We just had a five-10-minute conversation as a team. That's it," the shooting guard explained, adding it was a calm, mature conversation that "wasn't just about" Leonard, who's been nursing a quad injury.

Leonard insisted he's been sitting out because he's still not healthy, but will return when he is, sources told ESPN's Michael C. Wright. The injury has limited the elite two-way forward to just nine games this season. He last played on Jan. 13 and was cleared by team doctors in February, but won't play until his own medical staff permits.

The two-time DPOY is averaging 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, two steals, and one block in 23.3 minutes this season. Winners of five straight, the Spurs are in sixth place with 10 games remaining.
