Caron Butler hasn't played an NBA game since April 2016, and officially announced his retirement on Tuesday.
"It’s been a great ride and truly a blessing. But everything runs its course, even good things," Butler wrote in a post for The Players' Tribune.
Butler averaged 14.1 points in 881 games with nine teams, but is probably better remembered for the obstacles he overcame to reach the NBA. A father at age 14, he was incarcerated for drug dealing as a teenager before focusing on basketball and becoming a standout at UConn.
His best seasons came with the Washington Wizards, where he was a two-time All-Star in 2007 and 2008. Butler said last year he would only come back to play for either the Warriors, Spurs, or Cavs.
