Irving out vs. Knicks with quad injury

Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving won't play in Wednesday's game versus the New York Knicks due to a right quad contusion, the team announced.

Irving, 25, leads the Celtics with 24.9 points per game to go along with five assists, 3.7 boards, and 1.3 steals over 48 contests.

The All-Star starter has missed three games this season due to various injuries, including a left quad contusion. The Celtics are 1-2 without their flashy floor general, and have lost five of their last seven games. Their lead over the Toronto Raptors for first place in the Eastern Conference has dwindled to one game.

Marcus Smart is also unavailable due to a hand laceration, while Shane Larkin is listed as questionable with right knee soreness.
