Isaiah Thomas has legitimate reasons for delaying a lovefest with his former team.

The All-Star point guard will return to Boston on Wednesday for the first time since the Celtics traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Though he certainly deserves a tribute video given his contributions to the Celtics over the past two-plus years, he won't get one, per his request.

One Boston-based hockey writer didn't take kindly to Thomas' request.

The 28-year-old clapped back at him and explained why he wants to hold off on the tribute until his next visit.

Thomas made his season debut in Tuesday's 127-110 win over the Portland Trail Blazers after recovering from a hip injury that sidelined him since the Eastern Conference finals. He scored 17 points on 50 percent shooting from the field to go along with three dimes in 19 minutes off the bench.

The feisty floor general will not play against the Celtics, as he's not ready to suit up in back-to-backs, but said he'll "put on a show" when the Cavaliers visit TD Garden again on Feb. 11 with his family in attendance.

Celtics GM Danny Ainge confirmed his organization will present the tribute video that evening - the same one as Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony.
