David Fizdale is grateful for his time with the Memphis Grizzlies.

A day after he was relieved of his duties as head coach, Fizdale released a statement via ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski:

"I would like to thank the Memphis Grizzlies organization for allowing me the opportunity to lead this proud franchise and represent the city of Memphis. ...

"It was a great honor and experience to serve as your head coach and be part of the Memphis community. The city of Memphis is a special place and embodies a spirit that is second to none.

"I wish the organization and the players the best moving forward and hope they bring the fans the championship they so richly deserve. Go Grizz!"

Fizdale was sacked Monday - less than 18 hours after Memphis dropped its eighth straight contest and star Marc Gasol publicly questioned the coaching staff's decision to bench him in the fourth quarter.

The 43-year-old joined the Grizzlies before the 2016-17 season and coached the club to a combined 50-51 mark. He previously served as an assistant coach with the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, and Golden State Warriors.

Memphis (7-12) named associate head coach J.B. Bickerstaff as its interim head coach.
