Report: Battery charge against Clippers' Reed will be dropped
A misdemeanor battery charge against Los Angeles Clippers center Willie Reed should eventually be dropped after he enters a diversion program, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman.
Reed is to be arraigned on the charge Monday in a Miami-Dade court.
The 27-year-old was arrested in August after his wife told Miami police that he pulled her hair. She soon requested the charges be dropped.
"Willie is committed to his family, to improving as a person, and to working hard for a successful season for the Clippers," Reed's lawyers told Winderman.
Reed left the Heat for Los Angeles as a free agent in August, but he has since reportedly filed a $13.5-million arbitration claim against his agency ASM Sports. According to reports, Reed's agent Christian Dawkins advised him to turn down a three-year, $15-million offer from Miami. When no other market for Reed's services materialized, he signed a one-year contract for $1.5 million with the Clippers.
Dawkins was later fired by ASM Sports and arrested as part of the FBI probe into corruption in college basketball.
