Rozier laughs off trade rumors: Celtics 'won't trade me'

At a time when it seems nobody on the Boston Celtics is untouchable, Terry Rozier is confident in his spot on the roster.

The team has undergone a major overhaul this offseason, with only four members returning from last year, including Rozier. Despite entering just the third campaign of his pro career, the 23-year-old point guard is now the second-longest tenured member on the squad behind Marcus Smart.

Although his name frequently comes up in trade rumors, Rozier doesn't see himself getting dealt. Asked if he was ever worried that general manager Danny Ainge would send him packing this summer, Rozier laughed and told CBS Boston's Adam Kaufman:

"Nah, Danny won't trade me."

Ainge's appreciation of Rozier is no secret. It's believed the Celtics were in talks to acquire big man Serge Ibaka from the Orlando Magic at last year's trade deadline, but reportedly refused to include Rozier in the swap. So, Ibaka was dealt to the Toronto Raptors.

More recently, Rozier was safe from being included in Boston's swap for Kyrie Irving, with the organization instead shipping out All-Star Isaiah Thomas, two-way small forward Jae Crowder, prospect Ante Zizic, the Brooklyn Nets' unprotected 2018 first-round pick, and a second-rounder.

The prized Rozier has so far served as a role player, averaging 4.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists over 14 minutes per game off the bench for the Celtics. He hopes to justify the team's commitment to keeping him and make the team as good as (if not better than) last year, when Boston finished first in the East and reached the conference finals.

"I'm ready to show the world what I can do this year," he said.
