Waiters would welcome Kyrie, but warns there's already 'an alpha' in Miami
Dion Waiters has a message for Kyrie Irving should the Cleveland Cavaliers choose to make a trade with the Miami Heat.
While Waiters would have no issue if Irving were dealt to Miami, he wants to make it abundantly clear that the 25-year-old wouldn't be the only alpha guard on the roster.
"It would help. I'm not against that," Waiters said in an interview with HipHopSince1987. "Just know there’s an alpha male over there too in myself."
While Waiters is aware of his reputation as a gunner, he believes his shoot-first attitude is what's made him a successful player, and won't change his approach should Irving make his way to South Beach.
"I think that’s my biggest thing with everybody, 'Oh he got irrational confidence…' Man, I tell everybody, if I can make it from here, I can make it from anywhere," Waiters said. "Every day I need that confidence to get by. It ain’t got nothin’ to do with ball. It’s who I am. It was instilled in me.
"But you know, there’s an alpha male over there already," he added. "If you come there, we can boogie together."
After thriving during his first season in Miami, the 25-year-old re-signed with the Heat on a four-year, $52-million deal this summer.
