Scola thinks Ginobili could be surprise participant at 2020 Olympics

At 40 years old, Manu Ginobili will be the second-oldest player in the league when the 2017-18 season kicks off. Not only is the future Hall of Famer delaying his retirement for at least another year of NBA basketball with the San Antonio Spurs, but his fellow countryman Luis Scola believes the crafty Argentinian legend may have one more trick up his sleeve.

"Hey Manu, see you in 2020 in Tokyo?" Scola half-jokingly asks in a piece for the Players' Tribune. "You'll probably be too old by then, but something tells me you'll surprise everyone. It wouldn’t be the first time."

The golden generation of Argentinian basketball has been on a steady decline since the men's team shocked the world with a gold-medal finish at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Led by such pivotal figures as Ginobili, Scola, Pablo Prigioni, and Andres Nocioni over the past decade, the South American powerhouse was often a fan favorite in international play, where Ginobili's slick passing and Eurosteps were on full display.

With his time in the NBA winding down, it would be nice to see Ginobili, even at age 43, plying his craft on a major stage one final time.
