Watch: Lakers GM compares signing Caldwell-Pope to Bible story

Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka is extremely happy he was able to sign a talent of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's caliber in free agency.

Perhaps too happy.

"I guess I'll start as I often do with a story," said Pelinka on Tuesday. "I would venture to guess there's people in the room that are familiar with the stories in the book of Genesis, where there was a time when the Israelites were wandering in the desert and all the sudden bread came down from heaven. That's kind of what today feels like for us to have KCP join."

The 24-year-old began the offseason as a restricted free agent with the Detroit Pistons, but had his rights renounced by the organization in an effort to clear room for new Pistons guard Avery Bradley, who will become unrestricted next summer.

This led to the Lakers scooping up Caldwell-Pope on a reasonable one-year deal worth $18 million, allowing them to preserve cap room for the all-important 2018 free-agent class.

The verse Pelinka was referring to appears to have come from the book of Exodus, and not Genesis.

Regardless, using the Bible to express how thrilled he is to have KCP on board is a tad excessive, but does go to show how much the move means to him.
