La La Anthony prefers Melo stay in N.Y. or join nearby team

USA Today Sports

La La Anthony would apparently welcome a trade that would send her husband Carmelo Anthony from the New York Knicks to a nearby club.

The couple reportedly split due to stress from the 2016-17 season, during which Carmelo was burdened with seemingly never-ending trade rumors.

Asked on HOT 97 if she wants her estranged husband to remain a Knick, La La replied:

"My preference is to stay as close to (our son) Kiyan as possible. As his mom that's my priority."

"Cleveland's close," the TV personality added with a laugh. "New York is close. Toronto is close. Boston is close."

New York parted ways with team president Phil Jackson on Wednesday, who'd previously made it no secret he wanted to run Melo out of town.

The 10-time All-Star reportedly wants to stay with the Knicks to be near his only child, though it's believed he considered moves to the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers due to their close proximity to the Big Apple.

In the wide-ranging interview, La La also said she still loves her husband and praised him for being an "incredible father." She also talked about his "cute" relationship with Kristaps Porzingis, who seeks out Melo's advice.

The 33-year-old Anthony averaged 22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.9 dimes in his 14th NBA season. He has two years and about $54 million remaining on his contract, which includes a no-trade clause.
