Report: Griffin to meet with Suns on Saturday
Los Angeles Clippers unrestricted free agent Blake Griffin will meet with the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, the first day of free agency, a source told the L.A. Times' Brad Turner.
Griffin reportedly exercised the early termination clause in his contract last week, negating the final year of his contract with the Clippers. He would have earned just over $21 million for 2017-18 - a pittance compared to the $130 million he's in line to receive over four years should he sign a maximum contract with a team other the Clippers.
An unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, he may now court offers from other organizations, though Los Angeles still holds the upper hand in retaining its franchise star. The Clippers are able to offer more money over a longer duration than any other team - as much as $177 million over five years.
The Suns have been linked to several skilled big men this offseason, including Atlanta Hawks free agent Paul Millsap, though Griffin and Phoenix would clearly be a pairing of mythological proportions.
