Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made his long awaited return in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The announcement was made shortly before warmups on Sunday. Kerr's intention is to coach the remainder of the series.

An ongoing battle with debilitating headaches owing to a botched back surgery has left Kerr in and out of the lineup in the last two seasons. Kerr missed half of the Warriors' historic 73-win season last year, then stepped aside after the same issues cropped up in the first round of this year's playoffs.

Assistant coach Mike Brown worked wonders in the interim, leading the Warriors to an undefeated run. The former Coach of the Year recipient gave his star players more free reign to operate the offense, a formula that worked to great success given Golden State's embarrassment of riches.

Kerr holds a lifetime record of 207-39 (84.1 percent) in the regular season and 44-14 (75.9) in the postseason.
