Celtics' Crowder: Isaiah 'pretty pissed' Wizards usurped 2nd seed
Apparently, Boston Celtics star Isaiah Thomas really, really cares about being second best in the East.
After trailing the Toronto Raptors early in the season, Boston seized control of the spot in late January and has held steady at No. 2 behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. That is, until Friday, when a loss to the Denver Nuggets - compounded by a Washington win over the Sacramento Kings - saw the scorching-hot Wizards leapfrog the C's.
Sunday, Jae Crowder relayed that his All-Star teammate isn't thrilled about the current standings.
"I went to dinner with Isaiah after the Denver game and he was pretty pissed because the Wizards had won and gained second place," the small forward told ESPN's Chris Forsberg.
"I told him, 'Don't worry about it. We got a lot of games left and we'll get them back. We just have to take care of each game at a time.' I don't check too often; Isaiah checks a lot."
Indeed, plenty could change between now and the end of the season with about 15 games left to play.
After a rough start to the campaign, the Wiz have the best record since the calendar flipped, and are currently riding a five-game win streak. Washington leads the regular-season series with the Celtics 2-1, with the two clubs set to square off for the last time March 20 at TD Garden. While they're currently in a virtual tie, Boston has an easier remaining schedule.
