The Celtics legend subsequently drained a 3-pointer, inciting the TD Garden crowd to erupt. Pierce was then serenaded with a "Thank you, Paul" chant as the clock expired, with Boston winning 107-102.
That's how you say goodbye.
Following the game, Clippers bench boss Doc Rivers - who also coached Pierce in Beantown and won a title in 2008 - raved about the shot that capped the matinee.
"For Paul, that was perfect. That was perfect," he told reporters postgame.
