Nate Robinson signs with D-League in pursuit of NBA return

Nate Robinson has been quite vocal as of late over his desire to return to the NBA, with the charismatic 5-foot-9 guard getting one step closer to making that a reality on Thursday.

The now 32-year-old has signed a contract to compete in the NBA Developmental League, his agent told The Vertical's Shams Charania.

He'll formally enter the available player pool once he receives his letter of clearance from Israel, where he competed for Hapoel Tel Aviv last season.

The Oklahoma City Blue, Erie Bayhawks, Texas Legends, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, and Grand Rapids Drive currently have top priorities in the waiver wire.

Robinson posted a short video of himself on his Instagram account on Jan. 2, showing off his training regiment of on-court drills to show potential teams that he's dead serious about pursuing a return.

With the Cleveland Cavaliers currently searching for a playmaker to come off the bench and spot the likes of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, Robinson began questioning why the franchise wasn't calling his number, as he'd be more than willing to fill its open roster spot.

In 11 seasons with eight different teams after being drafted 21st overall in 2005, Robinson averaged 11 points, three assists, and 2.3 rebounds in 618 total appearances.

He suited up for the New Orleans Pelicans for the first two games of the 2015-16 campaign before the team ultimately waived him.
