Report: Sanders met with Celtics, to meet with 3 other teams concerning NBA return
When former NBAer Larry Sanders started dropping hints on social media that he was interested in making a return to the league, the now 28-year-old meant every word of it.
Sanders has begun the process of meeting with NBA teams concerning a possible return. He already met with the Boston Celtics last week, and has three more scheduled visits lined up with three other organizations, league sources told The Vertical's Shams Charania.
To help him find a home, Sanders has hired Joel Bell to be his agent.
The defensive-minded big man posted a photo on his Instagram account on Dec. 28 that he was "gettin that itch" to play basketball again, following that up less than a month later with a tweet declaring that he was "officially stepping back in the game."
He's reportedly been working on getting his body into game shape for the past six months, now believing that he's in a good place physically to play basketball again, sources told Charania.
Sanders' most productive season came in 2012-13 when he averaged a near double-double of 9.8 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Milwaukee Bucks, along with 2.8 rejections (second in NBA). This led to him securing a four-year, $44-million extension with the franchise.
Two violations of the NBA's anti-drug program were part of the season why Milwaukee bought him out of that contract in Feb. 2015. To this day, Sanders still gets paid $1.86 million per year through 2022 due to a stretch provision being implemented on the money he was owed.
In 233 career games, Sanders contributed 6.5 points on 48 percent shooting, 5.8 boards, and 1.8 rejections in 19.8 minutes.
