Fizdale doesn't see LeBron as head coach: 'He would kill somebody'

There aren't many coaches in the NBA that know LeBron James better than Memphis Grizzlies head coach, David Fizdale.

Fizdale is currently enjoying his first head coaching gig in the Association, but previously served under Erik Spoelstra in Miami as an assistant from 2008-16, where he helped James raise two banners to the rafters of American Airlines Arena.

The new Grizzlies bench boss thinks of LeBron as a basketball genius, but doesn't see him pursuing a head coaching job after his playing days are over.

"No," Fizdale told Dave McMenamin of ESPN, regarding James' potential future as a bench boss. "He would kill somebody. Perfection is like (his standard). He wants perfection."

"I could see him actually owning his own team and doing something like that, but I think (as a coach), he would end up killing a player at some point because they wouldn't live up to the expectations that he would set forth."

Even though Fizdale uses colorful language when describing James' tenacity and approach to the game of basketball, he admits the four-time MVP has a special way of surveying a game.

"I don't think I've ever been around a guy like that who sees a game that clearly," Fizdale said.

He went on to admit that if you're looking for someone to guide or mentor younger players, LeBron is your man.

"I don't know if you'll never find anyone better than (James)."

When told about his former coach's comments, James couldn't help but agree with the sentiment.

"Yeah, he's a little right," James said following Cleveland's 103-86 win over the Grizzlies. "I don't have, my patience is not - you've got to be very patient as a coach. I don't think I have that much patience. Not that much."
