Former NBAer Steve Francis turns himself in on burglary warrant
Former three-time NBA All-Star guard Steve Francis turned himself in to police early Monday morning for a burglary warrant stemming from an incident back in June, according to TMZ.com.
The 39-year-old allegedly raided a stranger's BMW in Manatee, Fla., stealing over $7,000 in goods, including a wedding ring, wallet, and cash. Francis reportedly went to the police department days later to return what he had taken, although he wasn't initially charged with a crime.
He was recently arrested for drunk driving in the Houston area, allegedly "vowing revenge" on the officers who pulled him over. A warrant was then issued once Florida police were made aware of his DUI.
Jail records say that Francis turned himself in for an unoccupied conveyance charge, which could carry up to five years in prison. His bond is set at $1,500.
Francis was the second overall pick in the 1999 draft, taking home Rookie of the Year honors with the Houston Rockets. He also played for the Orlando Magic and New York Knicks over his nine-year NBA career.
