Chris Paul avoided laser eye surgery by memorizing chart
Chris Paul is a crafty one.
For years, family members of the Los Angeles Clippers point guard have been concerned about his ability to see.
The thought of there being something wrong with his vision and having to get it corrected - with lasers, no less - worried CP3.
"I was having panic attacks," he told Dan Woike of the O.C. Register. "I couldn't sleep. These are your eyes. They get dry. I was stressed out."
So Paul masked his ocular deficiencies by memorizing the eye exam chart, managing to trick physicians into thinking his vision was fine.
After years of this deceit and squinting in an effort to see from a distance, he finally overcame his fear by undergoing LASIK eye surgery in May.
"It was probably the most nerve-wracking thing I ever did," admitted the nine-time All-Star, who added it helped that his banana boat pals LeBron James and Dwyane Wade had previously undergone the procedure.
It seems to be paying off so far, as Paul is shooting a career-high 45.8 percent from beyond the arc, which makes sense now that he can see from that far away. He's also averaging 18.3 points, 8.3 assists, 5.2 boards, and 3.1 steals, while leading the first-place Clippers.
