Women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm has signed an endorsement deal with Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, a company that makes supplements deemed illegal in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration.
Holm agreed to a two-year deal with the company, owner Jared Wheat told Josh Peter of USA Today.
The move seems curious for a fighter with a fairly wholesome image that goes by "The Preacher's Daughter," but does not appear to be in conflict with pre-existing deals or UFC regulations.
In addition to being outlawed by the FDA, the supplements - which contain the stimulant DMAA - would be banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, regulations the UFC adheres to.
In a statement released to USA Today, the UFC gave no indication Holm's association with the company would be a problem, though they were careful to mention they don't condone use of illegal substances:
"Holly Holm is a great UFC champion and a role model for the sport of mixed martial arts, the UFC organization has not researched the company that is sponsoring Holm, and UFC does not condone any athlete that uses a substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List."
