UFC president Dana White is scouring regional promotions to find an opponent for CM Punk.
With no actual MMA experience, the former WWE champion has put the promotion in an unenviable position. It would make no sense to pit Punk against anyone of note on the current UFC roster, yet it could be devastating from a promotional standpoint if he was to lose to a complete unknown.
As such, White's reality series "Dana White: Lookin' for a Fight" is partly being used as a way to unearth a warm body to stand across the Octagon from Punk during his eventual UFC debut.
In the latest episode of the series, set to hit YouTube on Jan. 11, White discovered Mickey Gall, a welterweight who trains out of Miller Brothers MMA - a gym owned and operated by longtime UFC veterans Dan and Jim Miller.
"Hey Dana White, I don't know if CM Punk has an opponent, but I would love to fight that man, CM Punk. Hey, CM Punk, I'm 1-0," Gall said following his first professional victory, according to FOX Sports' Damon Martin.
Whether its Gall or someone else, Punk, who trains with Duke Roufus, Anthony Pettis, and Ben Askren (among others) at the famed Roufusport gym in Milwaukee, is expected to make his long-awaited UFC debut at some point in 2016.
