Rogan suggests McGregor face Edgar before moving up to lightweight

According to Joe Rogan, Conor McGregor has unfinished business at 145 pounds.

The newly-minted featherweight kingpin has a gigantic target on his back, with Frankie Edgar, Jose Aldo, Nate Diaz, and Rafael dos Anjos all jockeying for position in the McGregor sweepstakes.

For his part, McGregor's desired plans involve becoming a two-division champion by moving up to lightweight to face Dos Anjos, which makes very little sense from a sporting standpoint but perfect sense when you consider the potential pay-per-view revenue.

Rogan, the UFC's longtime color commentator, understands why guys like Diaz and Dos Anjos thirst for a golden ticket like McGregor, but believes Edgar truly deserves the next crack at the bombastic Irishman.

"Do you really believe that Joe Silva told Nate Diaz that Conor McGregor 'was next?'" Rogan said on his podcast recently, according to MMAFighting.com's David St. Martin. "Or is Nate Diaz just being a smart guy? I think Nate's being smart. I think he's talking s--t. I feel like there's only one fight to make at featherweight. It's 100 percent Frankie Edgar. Couldn't be more emphatic about that, but as a fan I don't mind this Nate Diaz fight (for McGregor).

"Here's the question: Can they tell Conor who to fight now? Or is Conor so meteoric, is he so out of control, off the charts ... What if Conor says, 'I want to be a promoter.' Co-promote in Croke Park. He almost (has that power)."

Edgar is the clear No. 1 contender to McGregor's crown, and one of the greatest lighter-weight fighters in the history of the sport. A victory over "The Answer" would cement McGregor's legacy.

"If I'm king of the world? I make the Frankie Edgar fight," Rogan continued. "I at least make an attempt to. I don't know how much influence (UFC) has over him, but I would say, 'Honestly, your future is probably at 155 pounds. You struggle to make 145 but your legacy will be complete if you beat Frankie Edgar.'"
