Miesha Tate wants the title shot she was promised earlier this year.
Following Tate's dominant decision victory over Jessica Eye at UFC on FOX 16, UFC president Dana White said "Cupcake" would get a third crack at then women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
White famously reneged on the deal, inserting Holly Holm in Tate's headlining spot at UFC 193, citing the one-sided nature of Rousey-Tate I and II as the reason why "The Preacher's Daughter" was a more suitable challenger.
Holm, of course, crumbled Rousey's mystique of invincibility with a one-sided shellacking punctuated by a jaw-rattling head kick.
Holm's emergence as the top 135-pounder on the planet cracked the door open for a host of potential challengers, though they'll likely have to wait until Holm and Rousey rematch at UFC 200 in July.
"I'm not a fan of the rematch in that amount of time, because with everything else that Ronda has going on, plus her injuries, I just don't think it’s going to amount to a good outcome," Tate told MMAjunkie Radio, according to Steven Marrocco.
Tate believes the absolute beating Holm dealt to Rousey should preclude the former "Baddest Woman on the Planet" from getting an immediate title shot.
"It wasn't a competitive fight, and Holly has the perfect style to beat Ronda," Tate said. "Holly's already back in the gym training; she had no injuries from the fight. She knows she's fighting Ronda next, but she gets this whole time to fix maybe even the little things she wanted to improve on in the fight. She's going to be even more prepared, and I don't know if it's a smart move, because Ronda might go 0-2."
Tate, who expects to make her next trip to the Octagon sometime in February, is still holding out hope that she'll vie for the title soon.
"I'm not exactly sure who yet, but I would like for it to be the title fight," she said. "But that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. So I'm just waiting to hear back from the UFC."
