Paddy Holohan-Louis Smolka was a grappler's delight.
Like a pair of PCP-fueled Tasmanian devils trained to hunt for leg locks and tight chokes, Smolka and Holohan engaged in a thrilling, grappling-heavy, nine-minute war Saturday in the main event of UFC Fight Night 76. In the end, Smolka emerged from the mist with his hand raised.
The more well-rounded pugilist, Smolka went move for move with Holohan in the grappling exchanges, and whenever the men were separated on the feet, Smolka unleashed some heavy artillery.
Creeping toward the final minute of the second stanza, Smolka got full mount and started blitzing Holohan with heavy ground-and-pound until the battered Irishman gave up his back and Smolka put him to sleep with a rear-naked choke.
Just a spectacular performance by the young Hawaiian.
