Kimbo Slice on steroid use in MMA: 'Do what you gotta do to be prepared'
Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson doesn't seem to care whether his opponents step into the ring, cage, or octagon with an advantage gained from performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
In a media call Wednesday, reporters were invited to field questions to Slice and Ken Shamrock, who are set to meet at Bellator: Unfinished Business on June 19 at the Scottrade Centre in St. Louis, Mo.
Near the end of the media call, Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com asked Kimbo if he had seen photos of Shamrock's body at the fading age of 51, prompting him to question whether he cared about PED use and testing.
Slice had quite a bit to say.
"Listen, we fighters don't give a damn about what another fighter has to do to get in shape or be prepared for the fight," Slice began. "Like, really, I don't. Not knocking you, but it's really my view, to me."
Slice continued his stance on the topic, claiming fighters must enter bouts at their physical plateaus in order to put on the best show. His ramblings were cut short, though, most likely due to Bellator president Scott Coker pressing the silent alarm to cut off Slice before he could do anymore verbal damage.
Here's the rest of his comment before he was muted:
"It's like, dude do whatever - to anybody - do what you gotta do to be prepared but just show up 100 percent ready to fucking rock 'n' roll. We're fans, I'm a fan of the sport, I'm a fan of any athletic sport, and if you as an athlete, you know, are prepared - are training - on a professional level, then no you can't fucking just be, you know, just doing the average shit to compete on this level. Fans want to see these guys, they want to see us perform and train and be trained hard and beat our bodies up ..."
Both Slice and Shamrock passed their drug tests ahead of the fight. Not that Slice would mind, either way.
