Chad Mendes respects Jose Aldo's almost saint-like ability to keep his composure while dealing with Conor McGregor during the UFC 189 World Tour, but doesn't think he'd be able to do the same.
"I thought Aldo handled that pretty well," Mendes told reporters at open workouts for UFC Fight Night 63. "I probably would have started swinging on Conor, but that's me and that's not Aldo."
Mendes, of course, is referring to the last leg of the tour in Dublin, Ireland, where McGregor delighted his home crowd by snatching Aldo's featherweight title and playing a game of keep-away with it. Aldo, finally pushed to the limit, took exception to the brash Irishman's antics, and a brouhaha almost ensued.
Mendes' opponent on April 4, fellow former featherweight contender Ricardo Lamas, thought McGregor's showmanship was more suited to the scripted world of professional wrestling.
"I think some of the things that he does are bad for the sport," Lamas said. "Like being unprofessional and all that. We want to be a mainstream sport, and we want to be professional athletes. You don't see basketball players going up and stealing trophies away from other players like that."
