Enrique Briones def. Guido Cannetti via submission (rear-naked choke)
Enrique Briones emerged victorious in his official UFC debut, submitting fellow
debutant Guido Cannetti via second-round rear-naked choke.
Briones floored Cannetti with a picture-perfect right uppercut to the jaw, before following him to the mat, landing a barrage of vicious ground-of-pound, and sinking in the fight-ending submission.
Cannetti, feeling he had no other choice, tapped before Briones even had the choke fully locked.
Marco Beltran def. Marlon Vera via unanimous decision
Marco Beltran opened the UFC’s first foray in Mexico with a hard fought unanimous decision victory over Marlon Vera.
Beltran likely took the first two rounds on the judges scorecards, surviving multiple grappling onslaughts over the 15-minute affair, including a series of tight rear-naked chokes and a sloppy D'Arce choke.
Rounds two and three were particularly close, with both men controlling different aspects of the fight and landing significant offense.
Beltran, a cast member of TUF Latin America, improved his career MMA record to 6-3 (1-0 UFC).
