In the words of MMA journalist Luke Thomas, if the UFC doesn't find a way to make the proposed bout between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz a reality - it would be promotional malpractice.
When Silva's manager Ed Soares appeared on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Monday, he said Diaz is one of the potential opponents his client is targeting for his 2015 return. Helwani got in touch with the Stockton, California native who said he would definitely take the fight if it made financial sense.
Of course, the term "financial sense" is vague, but you have to think the UFC would be willing to put a good chunk of change behind a fight featuring two of the promotion's biggest draws.
The former Strikeforce welterweight champion Diaz has been semi-retired since losing to Georges St-Pierre in their UFC welterweight title fight back in March 2013. It was also rumored Diaz turned down a rematch with Carlos Condit at UFC 171, a fight that ultimately went to Tyron Woodley.
Dana White also expressed interest in Diaz fighting Michael Bisping, but nothing ever materialized out of that situation as well.
