Although the official scorecard will show that James Krause triumphed over Jamie Varner via TKO, it was an apparent broken ankle that ended the Arizona Combat Sports product's night.
Varner appeared to roll his left ankle early in the first frame, and valiantly fought on as Krause brutally assaulted his damaged limb with repeated leg-kicks. Despite Varner's obvious distress (he fell to the mat several times), the referee allowed the fight to continue until the end of the round, when it was mercifully stopped before he could take any more damage.
Although the loss was Varner's third straight in the Octagon, it's unlikely he'll be cut from the UFC, as Dana White and Co. love gritty displays of heart.
