Pimblett makes statement with 1st-round submission of Green
Paddy "The Baddy" Pimblett likely earned a spot in the top 15 in the UFC lightweight division with his biggest win to date.
Pimblett submitted King Green (formerly Bobby) with a triangle choke at the 3:22 mark of the first round in a lightweight bout at UFC 304 on Saturday at Co-op Live in Manchester, England.
Pimblett got into a dominant position on the mat relatively early into the opening round, locked in a triangle choke, and then attacked Green with an armbar before the referee intervened.
The victory lifts Pimblett's UFC record to 6-0 since his debut in 2021. The Liverpool native is one of the budding stars of the 155-pound division and will likely face a top-10 opponent in his next outing after beating the No. 15-ranked Green.
After the win, Pimblett said he wants a fight with Renato Moicano, who is scheduled to meet Benoit Saint Denis at UFC Paris in September.
Four of Pimblett's six UFC wins have come inside the distance, three by submission. He's the first to submit Green since 2008.
Green is now 1-2 in his last three Octagon appearances. The veteran lightweight was coming off a dominant win over Jim Miller at UFC 300 in April.
