Diaz beats Masvidal in boxing rematch of 2019 UFC bout
Nate Diaz is the BMF after all.
The 39-year-old bested his old nemesis Jorge Masvidal via majority decision (95-95, 97-93, 98-92) in a 10-round boxing match on Saturday at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
The fight was a rematch of a November 2019 mixed martial arts bout between the two at UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden. Diaz lost to Masvidal after a doctor's stoppage due to a cut in the third round, giving the latter the inaugural BMF belt.
Diaz is now 1-1 as a boxer after losing to Jake Paul last year. The former UFC star called out Paul for a rematch following his victory over Masvidal on Saturday.
"I'm going to beat Jake Paul's f-----g ass," Diaz said in his postfight interview in front of a raucous California audience that supported him all night.
Masvidal, meanwhile, said the judges must've been influenced by the crowd supporting Diaz throughout the bout and added he was open to a rematch.
"I thought I won," Masvidal said, per MMA Fighting's Damon Martin. "I thought I hit the harder shots. We can do it again, we're 1-1. We'll find a place and do it again. I definitely thought I landed more meaningful shots."
