Figueiredo handily beats Font in bantamweight debut
Former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo showed out in his first fight at 135 pounds.
Figueiredo defeated Rob Font via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Austin on Saturday night.
With the victory, the Brazilian enters the mix of contenders at bantamweight after moving up from 125 pounds. Font was ranked No. 8 in the division coming into the fight.
Figueiredo put on a comprehensive performance, proving that his smaller frame isn't an issue in the heavier weight class. He landed harder punches than Font throughout the matchup and wobbled him with a left hook in the third round.
The 35-year-old also mixed in some grappling, securing takedowns in Rounds 2 and 3.
Figueiredo got back on track after losing the flyweight belt to rival Brandon Moreno via doctor's stoppage in January. Saturday's bout was his first against someone other than Moreno since November 2020. Figueiredo fought Moreno in four consecutive fights. He's now an impressive 22-3-1 as a professional.
Font is riding a two-fight skid and has lost four of his last five Octagon appearances.
