Uriah Hall retires from MMA
Longtime UFC middleweight Uriah Hall announced his retirement from mixed martial arts Wednesday.
"It is with great sadness that I will be stepping away from the greatest sport in the world," Hall wrote in an Instagram post.
"The UFC has given me the best opportunity to step completely outside my comfort zone. Throughout the years, I've gone up against some of the best in the world at the highest level. Although I did not achieve the rank of world champion, I've acquired some of my greatest achievements from mixed martial arts, and that was facing my fears and being a champion in life."
The 38-year-old walks away on the heels of a two-fight skid consisting of decision losses to Andre Muniz and Sean Strickland. His final bout - against Muniz - took place at UFC 276 in July.
Hall had a lot of promise when he joined the UFC roster in 2012 following a stint on "The Ultimate Fighter 17." He gained notoriety on the show after scoring a highlight-reel, spinning-hook-kick knockout win over Adam Cella. He made it to the final but came up short against Kelvin Gastelum.
Ultimately, Hall had an up-and-down Octagon tenure and never reached title contention, going 10-9 overall. He earned notable wins against Gegard Mousasi, Anderson Silva, Chris Weidman, and Thiago Santos while falling short to the likes of Robert Whittaker, Derek Brunson, and Paulo Costa.
Hall, whose final MMA victory came against Weidman in April 2021, retires with a 17-11 career record.
