Tom Aspinall suffered a torn MCL and meniscus, as well as some damage to his ACL, at UFC London in July, he said Wednesday.
The heavyweight contender underwent surgery Wednesday in London to repair his knee. It is unclear how long he'll be on the shelf.
Aspinall sustained the injuries in the opening 15 seconds of his main-event bout against Curtis Blaydes on July 23 in his native England. Aspinall landed a leg kick, took a step backward, and then fell to the canvas while grabbing his knee. Blaydes officially won the fight by first-round TKO.
"Going to get that fixed today," Aspinall said in a video he posted to Instagram before the procedure took place. "But just a quick message just to say thank you for all the support. Really appreciate it. I've had so much love since the accident. I'll see everybody on the other side."
The 29-year-old came up short in the Octagon for the first time, falling to 5-1. He's ranked No. 6 in the division.
