Jon Jones has his sights set on Stipe Miocic, not UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

UFC president Dana White said last week Jones is "ready to go" and will make his heavyweight debut against either Ngannou or Miocic. Jones, who hasn't competed since February 2020, added he has "been ready" and is "waiting on a date."

Ngannou underwent knee surgery in March to repair a torn MCL and partially torn ACL. "The Predator" is expected to make a comeback at the end of the year or in early 2023, though he will need to sign a new UFC deal before that can happen. Meanwhile, Miocic has been out of action since losing the heavyweight belt to Ngannou in March 2021.

Jones was initially expected to challenge Ngannou after the latter defeated Miocic, but a financial dispute with the UFC kept Jones sidelined. More recently, there has been some talk of an interim title bout against Miocic while Ngannou continues to recover.
