Michael Chandler returned to the win column Saturday night in emphatic fashion.
In what is guaranteed to be one of the highlights of 2022, Chandler knocked out Tony Ferguson with a front kick at the 0:17 mark of the second round in a lightweight bout at UFC 274 in Phoenix.
The lightweights got off to a wild start in Round 1. Ferguson tagged Chandler with a left hand and then the two exchanged several punches. Chandler mixed things up and secured a takedown midway through the round. Ferguson stayed active from the bottom, landing elbows and looking for submissions. Chandler landed some heavy ground-and-pound down the stretch.
Early in the second round, Chandler landed a perfect kick to Ferguson's face and Ferguson slumped to the canvas.
After the fight, Chandler called for a title shot against either Charles Oliveira or Justin Gaethje, who meet in the UFC 274 main event. Chandler said if he doesn't get a title shot, he wants to face Conor McGregor.
With the victory, "Iron" snapped his two-fight losing streak, while Ferguson fell to 0-4 in his last four outings.
