Charges will not be filed against UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell after he was arrested following a domestic violence incident last week, reports ESPN's Marc Raimondi, citing a document filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Monday.

The document lists "lack of sufficient evidence" as the reason he won't be prosecuted.

The case was classified as a "cross-complaint," with Liddell and his wife, Heidi Northcott, accusing each other of being the aggressor in a "minor domestic violence incident," Raimondi adds.

Liddell was taken into custody after police responded to a call about a fight at his home in Hidden Hills, California.

The 51-year-old wrote in a statement that he was "the victim of the incident," saying he suffered bruising and lacerations while being assaulted by Northcott.

Liddell's daughter, who was interviewed by police, stated she saw her parents pushing each other but didn't see who started the incident.

Liddell said deputies told him Northcott would be arrested, but he "volunteered to go in her place."

"This was one of the many times I have tried to shield a family mental health issue from the public purview," Liddell wrote. "It has become painfully apparent that this cannot continue, as our private life has now reached a public breaking point."

Liddell was one of the UFC's first superstars, holding the light heavyweight title from 2005-07. He retired in 2010 before coming back in 2018 and losing a trilogy bout against Tito Ortiz by first-round knockout under Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions banner.
