The UFC is planning a bantamweight main event between Rob Font and Jose Aldo for its Fight Night card on Dec. 4, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Guilherme Cruz report.

Font and Aldo, the former featherweight champion, sit at No. 4 and No. 5 in the 135-pound rankings, respectively.

The American is riding a four-fight winning streak, most recently beating former champion Cody Garbrandt via unanimous decision in May.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian got back on track after dropping his first two fights at bantamweight - including a title bout against Petr Yan - by beating both Marlon Vera and Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision.

The top of the division is in flux after champion Aljamain Sterling pulled out of his UFC 267 rematch with Yan. Sterling underwent neck surgery in April and wasn't cleared by the promotion's doctors to fight.

The UFC reportedly wants to keep Yan - who dropped the belt to Sterling by disqualification in March - on the Oct. 30 card in an interim title matchup. Cory Sandhagen is considered the front-runner to face the Russian.
